A cracked iPad is the repair we see most, and the one people most often assume is not worth doing. It usually is. Seven of our iPad screen prices are published below, so you can check yours before you come in.
Why does a bigger iPad cost more to fix?
The glass assembly is the expensive part, and it scales with the panel. A 9.7in Air 2 sits at $99 while a 12.9in Pro 3rd Gen reaches $189 — the same job, a much larger and more fragile piece of glass to source and seat.
Air or Pro — does it change the repair?
It changes the price more than the process. Later Airs and every Pro use a laminated display, where the glass and the touch layer are bonded as one, so the whole assembly is replaced rather than the outer glass alone.
My iPad is a base model or a Mini.
Those two have no published row, so we will not invent one. Bring it in and the diagnosis costs nothing: you leave with a real figure for your exact model instead of a range you have to guess your way inside. Base iPads in particular vary a lot by generation, which is exactly why we stopped publishing a single number for them.
The glass is cracked but everything still works.
Still worth bringing in. Cracks let dust and moisture reach the digitiser, and a screen that reads fine today can start registering phantom touches later. The diagnosis costs nothing and tells you whether waiting is reasonable.

Tablets take longer than phones — the battery is bonded to the chassis and the glass is larger and more fragile — so same-day depends on the model and the part being in stock.

How deeply the cell is bonded varies by generation, and that is most of the labour. We would rather see the tablet than quote a range you cannot plan around.

Opened, replaced, resealed
iPad batteries are adhered into the chassis rather than clipped in, so the work is slower than a phone and the model decides how much slower. That is what the quote reflects.

Most of an iPad battery job is getting in and back out again without damaging the screen you did not come here to replace. How much work that is depends entirely on the generation, which is why the number comes after we have the tablet on the bench.
What an iPad repair actually changes
Four things about iPads specifically that catch people out after a repair. None of them are about us — they are how Apple built the tablet, and they apply whoever opens it.
Touch ID is paired to the board it shipped with
On iPads with a home button, the Touch ID sensor is cryptographically paired to that specific logic board. Replace the button and fingerprint unlock stops working — on any iPad, repaired by anyone, including Apple. The button still works as a button.
The battery is glued in, not clipped
iPad cells are adhered to the chassis rather than held by a connector and a bracket. That is why a battery job on a tablet is a longer, more careful piece of work than the same job on a phone, and why the price is not one number across the range.
Glass and digitiser usually come off together
On most iPads the front glass and the touch layer are laminated as one assembly. A “cracked screen” therefore means replacing that assembly, which is why the published prices climb with screen size and generation.
iPads are not water-resistant to begin with
Unlike recent iPhones, no iPad carries an official IP water-resistance rating. There is no seal to restore after a repair, and any shop that tells you a repaired iPad is now water-resistant is describing something Apple never claimed.
